Yushi Li

Yushi Li's works have attracted attention because they examine the link between the subject and the gaze, as well as the relativity of gender as a convention. Through her current ways of using social media and selfies, she inverses conceptions and expectations, such as gender roles, gender politics, and power structures of spectation that have been represented in traditional genres. She is currently working on a directed shot in which the female and male roles in classic paintings are reversed. Her work gained traction after she was named a Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2018 and earned the Royal Photography Society Hundred Heroines Award.

피사체와 시선의 관계, 관념적인 성의 상대성에 의문을 제기하는 작업으로 주목 받고 있다. 그녀는 다양한 전통적인 장르에서 구현되어온 성 역할, 성 정치에대한 권력 구조 등 통념과 관념을 소셜 미디어와 셀피를 통해 지금의 방식으로 전복시킨다. 현재는 고전 명화의 장면 속 남성과 여성의 역할을 바꾸는 연출 사진작업을 진행 중이다. 2018년 블룸버그 뉴 컨템퍼러리즈에 선정되었으며, 영국 왕립사진협회 100 히로인상를 수상하면서 주목받았다.
